Trailer Impressions of the Splatoon Stages Trailer

Release Date: May 29, 2015

GameReviewPad contributors give their thoughts on the Splatoon Stages Trailer:

Louis Hughes says:

When the game was revealed at the Nintendo Digital Event, (E3 2014), people were surprised at this new IP from Nintendo. The reaction I got from Splatoon is 5-on-5 teams armed with Super Soakers, but to see the characters turn into squids is a new twist on the third-person shooting genre. Nintendo has been pushing this game at events to give people a chance to experience this game with positive feedback.

As the game gets closer to release day, this trailer shows off new levels for the game. What has me excited for this game is just how different the game is. Here is a game having you claim parts of the stage by painting the level, while using your team color to your advantage by turning into a squid to move faster. You can’t make this stuff up. I can only hope I don’t fall prey to getting hyped for a game only to be disappointed.

Andre Calvert says:

Although I don’t currently own a Nintendo Wii U, I have to say this game looks interesting because I think this will be a big hit with the kids. With all this paint splattering, Splatoon looks like a game that would have Nickelodeon’s fingerprints all over it, but they aren’t involved. The stages seem interesting, but not difficult or confusing either. Based on what I’ve seen, I can’t say that Splatoon would be at the top of my personal shopping list if I had a Nintendo Wii U, because I want to wait and see the entertainment value this game brings in the end.

As I look into my crystal ball, I see Splatoon as a possible entry level game for kids to get into the team-based third-person/FPS games that their parents might not currently allow them to play. Splatoon seems simple, but I think it has a place.
