Slime Rancher (PC)

Slime Rancher is a game that I had my eyes on during its time in Steam Early Access, but I didn’t start giving it serious consideration for playing time until it was close to full 1.0 release. The concept of catching slimes and putting them on a farm sounds simple and boring on paper, but it is actually really addicting. You will be organizing your farm with different slime and food options, and before you know it, it’s a few hours later. The ability to crossbreed slimes is unique, as well as the Pokemon “Gotta Catch’em Call” type mentality this game can give you to try to catch every slime, which isn’t easy. There are many different slimes with different characteristics, like some can fly in the air and some can only survive under specific conditions like in darkness or on a pond of water.
Every player can play a different way by focusing only on certain slimes of their choosing, which gives this Slime Rancher plenty replay value. It isn’t the most complex game, but it is simple enough to cause a gaming addiction similar to Minecraft or Stardew Valley, which is why it lands on my Favorite Games of 2017 list.
