Andre Calvert’s Most Anticipated Games of 2018
Jurassic World Evolution (PC, Playstation 4, Xbox One)
Developer: Frontier Developments
Publisher: Frontier Developments
Release Date: Summer 2018
Jurassic Park has always been one of those franchises that I thought could be a good video game, but I thought the way the Sega Genesis game was done wasn’t the best way. Why was the theme park building element of Jurassic Park never touched upon before Jurassic World Evolution? It seems like such a ‘low-hanging fruit’ of an idea to not be done that it defied logic. Although a simple idea, I never thought I would see finally see this type of game for Jurassic Park, which is why the Jurassic World Evolution announcement caught me by surprise. I’ve always been a fan of the city building type of games like Sim City, but never really delved into the RollerCoaster Tycoon franchise. The developers at Frontier are coming to Jurassic World Evolution with the already positively received, Planet Coaster. This is a game I didn’t play, but I have seen plenty of gameplay footage and lots of positive feedback.
How can this possibly go wrong? These movie games always cause me great hesitation to have high expectations, but this isn’t your typical movie tie-in game, so it gets the benefit of the doubt from me. From everything I’ve seen from the developers, players get to customize many aspects of their park building experience and how to genetically evolve their dinosaurs. One element of the Sim City franchise that I always enjoyed were the disasters, and in this game the dinosaurs can break free like in the movies, so I can’t wait to see how that works and what tools people have to stop them. This is the kind of game that might sneak up on us in 2018 because it doesn’t have much hype right now, but it is definitely near the top of my list of most anticipated games of 2018!
