Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle (Switch)

On November 6, 2007 the unthinkable happened: Former enemies, Mario and Sonic, settled their differences to have a friendly competition in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games. While it was nothing more than mini-game compilation, it was surprising to see a Mario & Sonic crossover. Now we have another crossover no one expected. Mario crossing over with Rabbids from the Rayman franchise in a RTS game.

I was interested to see how the gameplay would hold up after the tutorial teaches you the basics. The combat works great and adds some new features for good measure. I have not played the X-Com series the combat is based on, but I have played Valkyria Chronicles and got the same feel out of it. The controls are easy to pick up, with a complex strategy having you plan your next move carefully. The constant checkpoints will keep you from getting frustrated if you die in combat. So far, I like the battle system, and the Rabbid’s antics are toned down so they’re not as annoying as their games. Most importantly, the Mario characters fit well without feeling out of place or shoehorned.
