Path of Exile: The Fall of Oriath (PC)
Patch: 3.0.1

I have been playing Path of Exile since it officially released in 1.0 and this release is easily the best one yet. With the removal of difficulties Cruel and Merciless the leveling experience is much more motivating and full of substance. Although I was a semi-regular player of Path of Exile, I rarely reached the “endgame” because I just didn’t want to repeat content in Cruel and Merciless difficulties. The addition of Acts 5-10 makes reaching endgame seamless and very fulfilling, as both the sub-bosses and bosses make for very interesting fights. Although the lore in Path of Exile never interested me before, the new Acts make the lore easier to understand and more intriguing, even if you just pay attention to the barebones of it.

The reason this is a “First Judgment” and not a full review is that I played a caster (Lightning Templar) through the story , and I want to go through the story again with a melee character to see if the experience is different going through the new acts. If you were holding off playing Path of Exile previously, this is the right time to try it. There is a new tutorial and a good help section in the game now to help your newbie struggles, so don’t be afraid! Path of Exile is a free-to-play game, and the microtransactions are generally cosmetic, aside from additional stash space that you can purchase (not mandatory). If you held off playing PoE due to reliance of third party websites to facilitate the trading system then this expansion may not be for you; trading wasn’t improved at all. I look forward to giving my full review once my melee character finishes the story and scratches the endgame.
