Forager is a game I covered in a recent Indie Game Discovery Roundup, but I had no idea that I already had a demo of this game in my possession. Forager is a very interesting take on the mining, gathering, and building genre, that is much more unique than it appears on the surface. Although the Forager Humble Bundle Demo has your level capped at level 10, I was still able to get a good grasp of what to expect. Just the fact that your character has a level is excellent in itself.
What Forager does a bit differently is it has a skill tree that makes you feel like your character is always getting stronger, giving you a level of customization that other games in the genre don’t have. As soon as you level up you get a skill point to assign to your character that unlocks abilities, passives, or new buildings for your character to build. Each new skill you choose also opens up some more skills in the future, making skill decisions a lot more intriguing.
The other interesting aspect about Forager is that you have to buy new land to explore further, which also has new things you can gather based on things you’ve unlocked previously. The demo does have a high respawn rate, but based on all other videos and images it appears to be a demo only setting. Forager is a game that I had no idea about five months ago that is now a game I can’t wait to play.
