Indie Game Discovery Roundup 004

Week of May 6, 2018

The Indie Game Discovery Roundup is a list of indie games just announced, upcoming. very recently released, or hidden gems that caught our eye that we would like you to know about.

Sol705, Odium to the Core, Just Shapes & Beats, Shift Quantum, Hexologic

Sol705

Sol705, a point and click adventure that already has a demo is highly intriguing, not just because of the plot, but also all the technical aspects surrounding it. The 2D graphics in Sol705 are a different look than what I am personally accustomed to seeing in point and adventure games, not that I’m an expert, but I see a lot of them! The game is about a boy during his winter break in the 1970’s that encounters many mysteries. The demo that is currently available on Steam is just the first episode, but a kickstarter will be started on May 8, 2018 to fund the rest of production. There’s a lot to like about what we see in Sol705 so far, and I’m looking forward to seeing where it goes from here.

You can wishlist it and play the demo on Steam here.

Release Date: Demo available on Steam, Kickstarter started May 8 (check it out here)

Odium to the Core

Odium to the Core is a game that recently caught my attention because of the kind of game it is. Even though a pure movement game like this some might seem simplistic, it actually appears very challenging. I’ve seen very little on Odium to the Core,  as I had to really dig to discover this game. It seems like it could be one of those games that people play a little then go back to for relaxation. A game like this needs to have tight controls, as bad controls destroy a game like this. Odium to the Core may be a game you haven’t heard of, but it’s a game you should definitely check out, as it is also going to be release on mobile.

You can wishlist it on Steam here.

Just Shapes & Beats

Just Shapes & Beats is a game I just re-discovered, because we’ve seen this advertised by Nintendo before, but you’ve problem forgotten about it. This game is what the game name is, moving shapes to a beat, but it actually looks kind of cool! Bullet-hell games can be very annoying, but if you check out what Just Shapes & Beats looks like, it doesn’t appear to be your average frustrating bullet-hell game. It certainly gives off minor vibes of Super Hexagon, but they are very different. This seems to be headed for release soon, so don’t overlook it.

You can wishlist it on Steam here.

Release Date: May 31, 2018, hopefully

Shift Quantum

Shift Quantum is another game I really had to dig around the internet to discover, and I’m glad I did. I am a sucker for puzzle games, and this one will catch the attention of anyone remotely interested in puzzle games. The concept of turning the level isn’t common, but I’ve previously seen it used in The Bridge. The concept of changing between black and white to solve puzzles, along with rotating the level eats can eat at any puzzle mind in a good way. Even better, a level editor will be included with cross-platform support across ALL PLATFORMS! (PC, Switch, Xbox One, Playstation 4) to play anyone’s level. Puzzle game fans should mark Shift Quantum down on their calendars!

You can wishlist it on Steam here.

Hexologic

Maybe it is how Hexologic looks, but this game looks intriguing for gamers into puzzle games. This looks to have a relaxing game atmosphere, and appears to have an interesting spin on presenting a Sudoku game. As someone who did Sudoku puzzles, most Sudoku presentations are bland and boring. Smartly, Mythic Owl made Hexologic for mobile besides PC. I can see this becoming a hit on mobile and I look forward to what the finished product turns out to be.

You can wishlist it on Steam here.
