Indie Game Discovery Roundup 007
Week of May 27, 2018
The Indie Game Discovery Roundup is a list of indie games just announced, upcoming. very recently released, or hidden gems that caught our eye that we would like you to know about.
Cultist Simulator, Shape of the World, Light Fingers, Inline, Battle of Kings
Cultist Simulator
I admit, I wrote off Cultist Simulator when I first saw the name as one of those many simulator games. I was wrong because once I watched and read more about it I realized this was a unique card game experience that we don’t see very often. I have Cultist Simulator listed here because it is a very engaging single player card game experience where you tell your own story through the cards you play. It is a roguelike card game, so every run through the game will not exactly be the same story.
You can wishlist it on Steam here.
Release Date: May 31, 2018
Shape of the World
Shape of the World stands out to me because of its colors and presentation. As someone who may not be the greatest fan of “walking simulator” games, for some reason this game just has a different appeal of discovering the unknown. You can see in the trailer the world being created in front of you as you move forward. And of course, the music is also very pleasant as played in the trailer. I have no idea what to expect from this, but you should know about it.
You can wishlist it on Steam here.
Release Date: June 5, 2018 (PS4, PC), June 6, 2018 (Xbox One, Switch)
Light Fingers
Light Fingers is a game has received very little attention, but it should. Created by an indie studio called Numizmatic Games, Light Fingers is a multiplayer game where players are on a 3D board like a board game. Your character can move around on the board, cards can be played, but a lot is still unclear. What is clear is that this is a unique game that I haven’t seen before. This is coming to the Nintendo Switch and could be a sleeper local multiplayer hit. The 3D model of the board is very interesting and I hope to see more about this in the future.
You can find more information here.
Release Date: 2018
Inline
Inline is a different take on Tetris. I admit, it may not be the most interesting thing in the world, but I also like to shine light on games that do something different or flip a type of game on its head and that’s what Inline does. You can place pieces on a board as if it’s a puzzle and you are given custom options to make the game more challenging. If you like Tetris-like games you should check out Inline.
You can wishlist it on Steam here.
Release Date: June 1, 2018
Battle of Kings
Who doesn’t like a good tower defense game? Battle of Kings is a different take on the tower defense genre that releases on Steam Early Access soon. Battle of Kings appears to mix the RTS genre with the traditional tower defense game by having economic management and also assembling your own army. This looks interesting enough like it wont be a tower defense game we’ve played had before and even better, it has multiplayer. If tower defense games are your thing, then place Battle of Kings on your wishlist for when it releases on Steam Early Access.
You can wishlist it on Steam here.
Release Date: 2018 for Steam Early Access
