Quick Opinions: Tactics Games and The Last of Us Part 2 Controversy
Tactics Games
Has anyone else noticed noticed a slight uptick in tactics games? Right now I’m juggling between XCOM: Chimera and Gears Tactics. On the indie game side, Wintermoor Tactics Club is scheduled to be released May 5, which I’ll be reviewing. Dread Nautical is another tactics type game recently released. For some reason the time frame of end of April and early May attracted this bunch of tactics games, and I apologize if I missed any. As someone who is a fan of the genre, but understands the time it takes to play all of them to their fullest (particularly XCOM: Chimera and Gears Tactics) and cover other genres of games, this is tough for me to juggle! I remember around 2012-2013 there was a huge wave of different tower defense games, so if 2020 is gonna be the year of a huge wave of new tactics games then I’m all for it, just space out the release dates please!
The Last of Us Part 2 Controversy
The Last of Us Part 2 now has a new release date of June 19, 2020 (pushing Ghost of Tsushima to July 17, 2020), but that’s not without controversy. Someone from Naughty Dog has leaked plot and gameplay footage out of retaliation for the labor conditions of Naughty Dog. Complainers online have said that the game has a “political agenda,” but that can mean anything these days as people say that when they just have a disagreement and insert the word “politics” to try to justify hate or displeasure. I am still going to play The Last of Us Part 2, as aside from intriguing plot I expect the gameplay mechanics to be much more evolved. June 19 can’t come fast enough! Oh and by the way, I think this quick release date announcement after the leak adds some validity to my theory that Sony might have just held the game back on their own due to the subject.
