Trailer Impressions: Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity – Announcement

Louis Hughes’ thoughts on the Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity trailer

Nintendo has made a trend this year to stealth drop announcements with the pandemic putting Nintendo’s game release schedule on hold for some content. This announcement is something even leakers didn’t know about.

While I find the Warriors series to be a pick-up and play experience, story hasn’t been their focal point, but crazy combos and gameplay is what they focus on. What makes Age of Calamity different is that we are getting the story of what happened a hundred years ago before the events of Breath of the Wild. While you can figure out what happens in Breath of the Wild, the game requires you to find out what happened. This will give you the full story. This factor alone is why I’m looking forward to this game, and with a November 20 release date, answers what the holiday game for the Switch will be. It should also be noted that the trailer ends with an update announcement set for September 26. It’ll be interesting to see what that update announcement is.

Update: The update announcement is another trailer showcasing more of the story of how The Champions formed. Afterwards, during the Tokyo Game Show uninterrupted gameplay was shown. This is surprising considering Nintendo barely makes announcements during TGS.
