They Are Billions is a game that snuck up on me, because I feel like I know most games coming out, but then all of the sudden out of nowhere popped up this game and everyone was playing it on Twitch. They Are Billions is a RTS strategy game in a steampunk world, where you have to protect your colony from an infected horde. As an RTS fan myself, this ticks so many boxes for me, especially as a StarCraft fan. Proper building placement is crucial, and figuring out the best “turtle” strategy in They Are Billions is in essence the game to prevent zombies from entering. I have yet to play it, but the game seems like an incredibly satisfying experience when finishing levels, which is always a great thing that I like to hear from gamers playing any game.
A campaign mode is on the way, which is the thing that I will wait for at the bare minimum before even considering diving in. Besides the RTS box that this checks, it’s also essentially a tower defense game on a more complex level. Remember years ago when tower defense games were releasing left and right on PC? There has since been a drought, and I think this unique zombie apocalypse experience is going to continue to be a hit after the first surge of popularity after the campaign mode hits. The one cool element this has going for it is that visual of a swarm of zombies surrounding a colony like bees trying to plow their way in. I will wait for They Are Billions to leave Steam Early Access with a campaign mode, and I can’t wait to see the finished product, hopefully with some multiplayer elements.
