Indie Game Discovery Roundup 011

Week of July 2, 2018

The Indie Game Discovery Roundup is a list of indie games just announced, upcoming. very recently released, or hidden gems that caught our eye that we would like you to know about.

Pool Panic, Sleep Tight, Detective Case and Clown Bot in: The Express Killer, Dream Alone, 20XX

Pool Panic

This seams to be a good year for Adult Swim Games, as Pool Panic, developed by Rekim, is a creative and colorful spin on the traditional game of pool. There seems to be a lot of games nowadays doing spin-offs of games we know of already, but this stands out because of the creativity of the situations you are put in as a player to shoot the pool stick. The trailer shows many different environments, and they all look to be wacky and fun. I just hope the trailer announcer is in the game. If you haven’t already, keep this one bookmarked so you don’t forget about it!

You can wishlist it on Steam here.

Release Date: July 19, 2018 (PC, Switch)

Sleep Tight

The reason I selected Sleep Tight is because this just looks so incredibly fun. The art style and presentation is pretty well done for a top down twin stick shooter, yet everything looks so simple? That’s part of the charm of this game, as you build a fort and can play as different characters with different skill playstyles to fend off hordes of enemies. There is a leaderboard, so that is always appealing. This game’s trailer is very well put together, so I recommend you watch it. Don’t forget to wishlist this gem, as this comes out late July.

You can wishlist it on Steam here.

Release Date: July 26, 2018 (PC, Switch)

Detective Case and Clown Bot in: The Express Killer

Detective Case and Clown Bot in: Murder in the Hotel Lisbon is the first game in the series, a game I admit I haven’t played or as the trailer puts it, “a game you didn’t know existed.” Detective Case and Clown Bot in: The Express Killer is the sequel, and although I have no experience in the series this trailer was really appealing. Nerd Monkeys has put together a fun looking mystery point-and-click game in pixel art with a lot of humor. The pixel art animations are also very impressive. The trailer sells the game really well, and I am intrigued by the plot of solving a mystery on a train. This is an interesting game that I’m glad to bring to your attention. Don’t forget to wishlist this, as it could be an unsung gem of 2018.

You can wishlist it on Steam here.

Release Date: July 19, 2018 (PC)

Dream Alone

I honestly don’t know what to think of Dream Alone, but I’m intrigued. This game is a really dark platformer that really emphasizes your character deaths with huge splashes of blood. The announcer in the trailer is creepy, but the game matches the announcer, as the entire look and feel is in almost total darkness. You play as a young boy whose town was hit by a mysterious sickness that ends up leaving town to seek Lady Death, the only person who can help him. A weird, creepy, and depressing premise, yet still intrigued to see how this story ends up. I don’t know what to make of Dream Alone, except it is interesting and I wanted to bring it to your attention.

You can wishlist it on Steam here.

Release Date: June 28, 2018 (PC, Switch)

20XX

20XX is finally being ported to console, but it is also a game that I have played on PC that was so under the radar that I wanted to give it more attention. This is a rogue-lite inspired by Mega Man that is just a really relaxing game with a cool soundtrack. The controls are very good and the game is very challenging with many modes and options to choose from to satisfy your taste, not mention, many leaderboard options for the competitive gamers out there.  If you are looking for an appetizer before Mega Man 11 releases later this year, I recommend 20XX.

Release Date: July 10, 2018 (Switch, Playstation 4), July 11 (Xbox One)
