 Indie Game Discovery Roundup 015

Week of August 7, 2018

The Indie Game Discovery Roundup is a list of indie games just announced, upcoming. very recently released, or hidden gems that caught our eye that we would like you to know about.

2064: Read Only Memories INTEGRAL, Polygod, Shadows: Awakening, Robbotto, Star Traders: Frontiers

2064: Read Only Memories INTEGRAL

2044: Read Only Memories INTEGRAL is on this list because this is being ported to the Nintendo Switch on August 14, 2018, and I happen to never heard of the game up until now? Quite embarrassing, because the trailer is very intriguing for a point-and-click game, with interesting graphics and good voice acting. Not to mention, the voice actors are from other games you’ve played, like from Telltale The Walking Dead,  Melissa Hutchison, who did the voice of Clementine. This has a good roster of voice actors and should not be overlooked if you own a Switch or other platforms.

Release Date: August 14, 2018 (Nintendo Switch) (Previously released on Consoles and PC)

Polygod

Polygod is an indie game that I recently discovered that immediately caught my interest because of its graphics and casual gameplay style. I’m usually not drawn to games that are FPS, but there is something about a wacky colorful shooter that I find appealing, that other games can’t. The levels are randomly generated, plus there are custom powers (blessings) to make the gameplay experience different almost every time. There is also multiplayer, plus bosses to defeat, so gameplay will be plenty. This is currently in Steam Early Access, but will be out on August 17, 2018. Check out Polygod if you haven’t already, especially if you are into the genre.

You can wishlist it on Steam here.

Release Date: August 17, 2018 (PC, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch)

Shadows: Awakening

Shadows: Awakening is a game that appeals to my dungeon-crawling RPG heart in every way, which is why this is included in the roundup. The graphics look pretty good and gameplay features swapping between characters, which in a genre like this adds a new flavor I personally haven’t seen before. The camera angles are closer, giving this genre a different flavor than we are used to. The other cool gameplay element is traveling between realms, which I can see being a pretty unique and fun feature. As a huge fan of this genre, I can’t wait to play Shadows: Awakening, and you should definitely not forget to bookmark or wishlist this.

You can wishlist it on Steam here.

Release Date: August 31, 2018 (PC), September 4, 2018 (Playstation 4, Xbox One)

Robbotto

Robbotto is an action arcade game with 100 levels that has a very old school aesthetic, as you play as robots. A single player and local co-op experience, with robots Robb and Otto, there is certain charm to this game that I found appealing. It doesn’t have the appearance of other games in the genre, but also doesn’t appear to have huge complexity either. There is nothing wrong with a ‘straight to the point’ game like Robbotto, where you just go level to level completing levels. I happen to enjoy those types of games, and the presentation in this game with the level design is good enough to catch my interest. You should definitely check out this game if you haven’t heard of it, as it looks to be a charming fun game.

You can wishlist it on Steam here.

Release Date: August 16, 2018 (PC, Nintendo Switch)

Star Traders: Frontiers

Star Traders: Frontiers is a game that deserves to be noticed, as it is a big space crew management game, as the game title implies. It contains many different custom choices for players to make for their ship and space crew, which are very deep. The game does tout story choices, and I have no doubt that players will get hundreds of hours of playtime with Star Traders: Frontiers. I just love the concept of controlling so many choices in a space setting, which makes this game appealing for those gamers heavy into micromanagement and choice making. This game definitely may have snuck by, but I’m glad to bring this to your attention.

You can wishlist it on Steam here.
