Final Fantasy XV (PS4)
Developer: Square Enix
Publisher: Square Enix

With many great games in 2016, it’s really hard to choose just one to say it’s my favorite. That is until Final Fantasy XV finally released after ten years of waiting.

Final Fantasy XV, originally titled Final Fantasy Versus XIII, has been a highly anticipated title for me since I was a freshman in high school. My niece wasn’t even six months old at that point and now she is rocking middle school and more popular than I ever was. Crazy to think about. It’s out and I am 45 hours in at the time of writing, deep into this game, and I can’t put it down. The story is engaging, the combat is fun, and the music is exactly what you would expect from a Final Fantasy title. It totally stole the show after I tempered my expectations for disappointment, as games with very long gestation periods tend to be.

Other Favorite Games of 2016:

Of course there were many other fantastic games this year. The Last Guardian (PS4) has been in development for quite sometime as well and finally released to a pleasant release. Dark Souls III (PS4) would easily have topped everything this year, a fantastic game. Overwatch (PS4) was a bit surprising, but a great addition to the Blizzard library. Battlefield 1 (PS4) and Gears of War 4 (Xbox One) were also great shooters to add to gaming libraries. Pokémon Sun and Moon (3DS) released to bring a lot of new and welcome changes…with some not so welcome, but a great story and addition to the Pokémon series. Certainly, 2016 was a satisfying year.
