Roller Champions E3 2019 Demo Thoughts (PC)

Roller Champions

Release Date: 2020
Platforms: PC

I played the Roller Champions E3 2019 demo almost a month ago because that’s when it was available. It was promoted as a “pre-alpha” demo and that’s what it exactly felt like. Without being too judgemental due it being in early development, the demo lacked a tutorial, a bad first impression for such a new game like this. The demo was only available on PC via UPlay from June 10th-13th, and I only felt like playing a little bit of it because I had no idea how the game was to be played, although it was clear these discs had to be thrown through a goal.

For all the issues I had with the demo, I played this with an Xbox 360 wired controller and the controls felt super smooth. I was able to control my character easy and the only problem was figuring out the mechanics of how a match plays. I definitely feel Roller Champions has potential, as the game feels different than any other game I’ve played. I would even say it has an NBA Jam type experience because of the casualness and arcade feel of the gameplay, the pushing you can do to others, and  also a match being a 3-on-3 experience.

It is way too early for me to completely judge Roller Champions, but based on the E3 2019 demo I think the game has tremendous upside and I will definitely check it out in the future. I was also pleasantly surprised with the user interface and potential options that were greyed out in the demo. Hopefully a tutorial and VS AI mode is added in the future.

Unfortunately, the Roller Champions Demo is no longer available.
