GameReviewPad gives their thoughts on the Age of Empires Definitive Edition – Gamescom 2017 Trailer.

Andre Calvert says:

The Age of Empires Definitive Edition trailer is a reminder that Age of Empires (1997) pre-dates StarCraft (1998) when you see the old graphics and certain enhancements mentioned in this trailer. This is the 20th Anniversary of Age of Empires, so why not make a ‘remastered’ version? Not only are there graphical enhancements, but it appears that game elements like population limit are also getting increased to take advantage of modern hardware. The more curious enhancement, “Attack Move,” is an afterthought in a game like StarCraft, so it is baffling to me why this just wasn’t added in at some point. Attack Move is the ability to command a unit to move to a location and automatically attack anything in its path.

Age of Empires has always been a staple in the Real-time strategy genre, only to be overshadowed by StarCraft, but this trailer certainly brings back memories and I’m sure it will be a big hit. I can’t wait to play this because Age of Empires will always have a place in my RTS heart and I’m glad that this new generation of players will  be able to experience it.
