GameReviewPad gives their thoughts on the Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey – 101 Trailer EP1: Explore trailer.
Andre Calvert says:
This trailer of Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey
features the creator, Patrice Désilets, as he explains the exploration in his game. This is a very well done trailer, as he sells the game as a survival game, which features open exploration without a minimap. Given this is a game centered around you being a monkey and the evolutionary process, the game puts you directly in control of making instinctual decisions with limited resources, while also having to replenish your resources each day.
There is something special about this game, as you can see in this trailer, although it does seem like a lonely experience. That’s not to say you don’t encounter wildlife and food you need to avoid, as Patrice explains these survivability obstacles and decisions you will have to face. I was already intrigued by Ancestors, but this trailer did a lot to sell me on the gameplay. The lack of minimap is an interesting choice and I think it will help the overall gameplay.
I look forward to Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey, as I feel this is truly a unique game that could transcend this being merely a video games in the science community.
