Tales of Zestiria Review (PS4)

How do you begin to talk about a game as big and complex as the Tales series? Tales of Zestiria is the newest game in the JRPG series of twenty years. Much like the Final Fantasy games, each Tales game is its own story with a contained story. In Tales of Zestiria we follow the story of the Shepard as he begins his journey to fight the Lord of Calamity. Sounds easy, if the fate of the world weren’t riding on your shoulders with the choices and decisions that have to be made for the greater good of everyone, including those who oppose each other.

Rise of the Tomb Raider Review (Xbox One)

I absolutely loved the first Tomb Raider reboot; what it lacked in story, characters, and character development, it more than made up for in the gameplay department. Tomb Raider took me on an incredible unforgettable journey and left me begging for a sequel. Fast forward to November 2015, I was very fortunate to buy Rise of The Tomb Raider and play it for an extensive amount of time. So was it everything I was hoping for, or did it fall a wee bit short?

Xeodrifter Review (PS4)

Old school style games are on the rise! We see a birth of a new breed of spectacular pixelated games, with top titles being Shovel Knight and the Shantae series among others. We have waves upon waves of these games coming out that try to innovate old ideas or stand out on their own merits. Indie developers are booming, but there can come some problems with this craze. When do we put aside the nostalgia goggles and look at the bigger picture? Which games truly innovate, and which games are simply just mediocre to good, and where does Xeodrifter fit on that line?

Life Is Strange Episode 4 Review (PS4)

The previous episode of Life Is Strange hit many high notes and ended with a shocking cliffhanger, which left me eagerly anticipating the next installment. Right off the heels of the events surrounding the last episode, Max Caulfied is left to deal with the dire consequences of her actions. Using her newly gained time travel powers, she chose to travel back in time to prevent a tragic event from taking place, in hopes of acquiring a more preferable future. While she was successful in preventing the unforeseen accident, another tragedy befell one of her closest friends as a result, which finds her immediately regretting her decision. Pressure is mounting and emotions are at an all time high, as our protagonist not only has to find a way to undo her time travel fiasco, but she also has to find out who is behind the terrible wrongdoings surrounding her school, and figure out the best way to warn everyone of the eventual climate disaster heading straight to her city. So did this episode build on the solid one before it, or is this an unfortunate misstep?

Costume Quest 2 Review (PC)

Costume Quest 2 is a simple and sweet JRPG that uses the power of Halloween to bring out the kid we all still have buried inside us. Though not very difficult or complex, Costume Quest 2 is a treat filled with witty jokes, dipped in good vibes, and covered in a delightfully spooky wrapper. For anyone who wishes they weren’t too old to go trick-or-treating, Costume Quest 2 will satisfy that sweet tooth. Costume Quest 2 is about a group of kids who stop an evil dentist from ruining Halloween by traveling through time to acquire an army and make Halloween illegal. The kids accomplish this by transforming into giant fighting versions of whatever their costume is and battling monsters.

Super Mario Maker Review (Wii U)

Back when I was young, I was given a sketchbook for my birthday. With that, I drew a lot of sketches back when I had a lot of free time on my hands. One of those sketches would be my own Super Mario level. I’m sure I wasn’t the only one who did this. For a long time fans wanted a game where they can create their own levels. While other games have tried, it didn’t have the same feel (unless you played those PC hacks).

To celebrate 30 years of the franchise, Nintendo decided to give the fans what they wanted and have you create Super Mario levels… officially. Will this game help future gamemakers on how to create fun levels, or will you just play the 25th anniversary Super Mario All Stars for Wii?
