Kid Icarus: Uprising Review (3DS)

The oddball of the original 3DS line up, Kid Icarus: Uprising was the rebirth of a once presumed dead franchise. Starting out as a 2D platformer, Kid Icarus gained mediocre praise for its weird design and difficult gameplay. Though it seemed like a cult-classic title for the NES, the game saw a surprising rebirth on the Nintendo 3DS with a continuation. It discarded its original play style for an entirely new rail shooter/third-person shooter game. This brings up the question, was this a wise decision or should they have just let Kid Icarus stay dead?

Fire Emblem Awakening Review (3DS)

Once considered the last of its franchise, Fire Emblem Awakening single-handedly brought back its series’ repute. The Fire Emblem series was once only a Japan exclusive game, starting on the NES with one of its well-known characters, Marth in 1990. Traversing many of Nintendo’s handheld and home consoles alike, North America would not see a Fire Emblem game until Fire Emblem: The Sword of Flame for the Gameboy Advance in 2003. Now with quite a few English localized games under their belt, the popularity of the Fire Emblem franchise was waning. It’s been a while since a Fire Emblem game garnered enough respect, and developer Intelligent Systems was considering this as the last game unless it sold well. With them putting all their effort into its conception, does Fire Emblem Awakening deserve its rank among some of the 3DS’ best titles?

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate Review (3DS)

Capcom does it again with their extremely popular series Monster Hunter! The addition of Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate does not disappoint with additions of new weapons, monsters, and story elements. Capcom’s ability to produce these sequels and not lose any quality whatsoever still amazes me. Being one of the several games in the franchise, it loses nothing that the previous game brought to the table. This new addition to the Monster Hunter franchise isn’t a letdown, even if it’s only limited to the Nintendo 3DS.

There have been many questions over the past few years about Nintendo concerning the rising popularity of mobile games versus the handheld market. A big one is, how is Nintendo going to compete or adapt? Pokémon Shuffle is our first look at this evolution, but will it put Nintendo on a path to become a master, or be a shameless pay-to-win artifact?

Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. Review (3DS)

Intelligent Systems’ first New Nintendo 3DS handheld game has been published in the form of a turn-based, third-person shooter known as Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. This marks one of the first games -aside from Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, and other reverse compatible games- that has utilized one of the handheld’s new control capability, specifically the c-stick. Most notably renowned for developing one of the highest rated games for the 3DS -Fire Emblem Awakening- Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. functions much like Awakening with limited moves allowed for the players to choose from in the campaign as well as online multiplayer formats.

Fantasy Life Review (3DS)

Fantasy life Boxart

As a fan of RPGs, Fantasy Life struck my eye at a time when it was being overlooked in favor of Super Smash Bros. For the Nintendo 3DS. Although the art style and multiplayer features pulled me in to become an owner of Fantasy Life, I still had low expectations due to it being a handheld game and lack of publicity by Nintendo. My actual experience was something I never expected…
