Indie Game Discovery Roundup 032

The Indie Game Discovery Roundup is a list of indie games just announced, upcoming. very recently released, or hidden gems that caught our eye that we would like you to know about.

Dark Devotion, Fell Seal: Arbiter’s Mark, Zombotron, Rise of Industry, Brief Battles

Dark Devotion

Dark Devotion is a game that I’ve been following for a while, then suddenly it just released. This game gives vibes of Salt & Sanctuary, with a much more pixel-rich aesthetic in a rogue-lite setting. The 2D ‘souls’ genre is still very much still searching for that great total package experience, although many good ones have preceded this. Dark Devotion clearly tries to set itself apart due to this being a rogue-lite, in addition to the difficulty. The trailer showcases some interesting bosses, which of course drew my interest. Don’t forget Dark Devotion if this is your genre because this was the definition of a stealth release.

Fell Seal: Arbiter’s Mark

Fell Seal: Arbiter’s Mark is a game that caught my interest months ago due to its framework as a tactics RPG.  This turn-based RPG also allows a lot of customization, giving the player a lot of control over who to recruit to your party. I can’t mention this game without complimenting the artwork, as the sharp images make this game standout. If Final Fantasy Tactics was a favorite game of yours, then Fell Seal will likely be speaking to your tastes. I couldn’t not include this in the roundup due to how this game stands out in the turn-based strategy genre.
This is scheduled to release on consoles later.

Zombotron

Zombotron drew my attention mainly because of the presentation. With so many zombie games out there, few games have 2D zombie killing, which this game presents with interest. As Blaze Rush, you use many kinds of weapons to kill different kinds of zombies. The visuals in this game are also sharp with a decent amount of color when considering such a dark location. Zombotron may be flying under the radar, but if killing zombies is your jam you should check this one out.

Rise of Industry

Rise of Industry is a game I just recently discovered, as it is now out of Steam Early Access. I do feel like I was missing out on knowing something great because this is an industrial tycoon game that allows you to run your own company. First of all, the aesthetic is appealing enough to make the visuals pop out at you, but the animations as shown in the trailer shows a busy constantly moving. Where this game extends the appeal is not just building stuff, but company decisions against rival companies. I also noticed a skill tree, which adds even more customization, giving each player their own choice of how to expand their business. Don’t overlook Rise of Industry because this definitely adds something new and interesting to the tycoon genre.

Brief Battles

Brief Battles is a game I couldn’t leave out of my roundup because this is just such a wacky concept of a game. This is a multiplayer brawler where you use underpants as your weapon against others. This definitely seems like a game that will be fun, but it is local multiplayer only, limiting the appeal of the game. That being said, the game does have solo challenges and has 50 unique battle arenas. Brief Battles is a funny concept of a game that you should definitely check out if this is your genre.
